Shopify Platform Evolution
Long-term stewardship of a production Shopify implementation for a musical-instrument e-commerce company — moving it from ad hoc page content toward reusable, structured theme architecture.
Context
This Shopify implementation has existed across multiple generations of Shopify's platform architecture. Historically, building custom pages often meant embedding custom HTML directly into Shopify page content — workable at first, but difficult to maintain and reuse as the store grew.
Role
Micah has held long-term, ongoing responsibility for the health and evolution of this Shopify implementation, alongside his other commerce-systems work.
Approach
Micah moved reusable presentation logic out of page content and into Shopify theme sections, and introduced structured metafields for page and product data. The primary benefit of this work is maintainability — the ability to build and evolve the store more easily over time. It was not built as a fully self-service page builder for non-technical staff.
The implementation still contains older Shopify architecture patterns that would benefit from further modernization toward Shopify's current Online Store 2.0 standard. That modernization work is ongoing rather than complete.
Status
This is a long-running stewardship effort rather than a single, finished project. Further modernization toward Online Store 2.0 is planned but not yet complete.
